Babu is the hero of this Fraud story. He joined MNC Engineering company in 1978 as an Apprentice. With his brilliant performance at the workplace, he was confirmed after 18 months as a Press Operator in the Production Department. He was working for three shifts rotation. He was a big dreamer and chasing it was his passion. His dream was to be a rich man within a short period. His famous dialogue with his colleague was that he will not work till retirement but will resign after 20 years. His life Goal was to work hard for 20 years. As this was a good job this target was achievable. He started saving heavily. Condition on work was such that he was asked for double duty on work which gave double rate per hour for extra hours worked. Mostly it was another shift of 8 hours. His Goal was clear to make money at any cost. So he started regularly double-shift working. Took advantage of lazy coworkers. In a shift of 50 workers at the end of the shift he was always looking for anyone absent on duty so that he will get overtime. He left his workplace only after confirming all shift workers' attendance. Such was his urge towards making money. His Income became double due to this attitude. At then they used to get payment in Cash. He was always telling his friends that he has not opened the stapled payments packet last month. He was proud of that. His friends were taking a loan to buy a Home/TV/Fridge but this man was saving money following his passion for growing fast. Soon he came to know that some workers need urgent money for a short period of maybe from 15 days to 3 months. If they get cash immediately when needed they were ready to give 2% monthly interest easily.
He took this opportunity & Money Lending became his second source of Income soon. Babu became popular as a Sahukar in his group. Soon this popularity increased & whole factory workers were looking towards him as a Money Lender. His overtime tendency was also at its peak. Money was flowing towards him. He started investing in a Post office saving scheme which was making money double in 5 years then & income tax benefits were also from this scheme. He was successful in making the chain by investing Rs.10000/- per month for five years. After that, he started receiving Rs.20000/- per month from postal savings which again he invested in the same scheme. He was working very hard towards his aim of early retirement. Saving was in his blood. Meanwhile, he got married in 1984 & had two kids. Everything was going well. He constructed his own big home & a chawl. He gave some rooms on rent in his chawl. His urge to make money fast was also increasing day by day. As his Income was very good his expenses were very less. Almost zero expenses on Luxurious Items. Babu was drinking wine or smoked sometimes for pleasure with his friends but the occasions were very few. His friends called him Stingy.
Now we will see another Man in this story. His name is Ajay. He joined this organization in 1968. He was senior to Babu. His Designation was Helper. The thought process of this man was exactly opposite to that of Babu. Happy-go-lucky nature. He was thinking of today only. No future thinking. He also had two kids. His wife's name was Urmila. Ajay was a generous man. Party maker, regular drinker having fond of playing cards & Matka (A sort of lottery). His saving was zero. Always had a shortage of money at the end of the month. His expenses were more than his income that’s why he was always looking for loans at any cost. For short loans, he was not bothered by Heavy interest rates. This nature made him a customer of Babu in money lending. In 1995 he became a tenant of Babu, as he started living in a chawl owned by Babu. Slowly Ajay went into the clutches of Babu as he was always in need of money for drinking wine or Gambling. Playing cards for gambling was one of his hobbies. Never thought of his family’s future. His behavior never made his wife happy. This beautiful lady was always sad. She was always thinking of her bad luck & this irresponsible husband who had hardly offered any moment of happiness in her life. Ajay always kept Urmila under the tension of everything, She had no solution on how to fill the daily needs of growing children’s, there education. She was very frustrated with this miserable life. When she asked her husband for money for domestic expenses, she was slapped by Ajay. Sometimes thoughts of suicide also come to her mind. Her kids were growing & better in their studies that was the only good thing happening in her life.
When Ajay came to live here, he was fully indebted & had to pay a lot of loans to Babu which he knew he could not. Things went to such a low that when Babu was working (overtime) in the second shift & Ajay was at home( after his duties in the first shift) in this situation Ajay was asked to give Tiffin to Babu. Within a few months, Babu became a regular visitor to Ajay’s home as he was there for collecting monthly rent. Slowly he became a friend of Urmila too. Taking her side he was advising Ajay not to hit his wife. Give her good treatment. He had a soft corner for Urmila. As days pass away both of them became good friends. In 1999 Ajay managed to get his Son a job in the same organization he was working. This was one of his dreams that came true. Now Ajay got more relaxed. His drinking increased. Babu used to solve any problem in this family by helping financially or discussing. Babu was in his Forties & Urmila was five years elder than him. Both of them were attracted to each other physically.
Up till this point, Babu became self-dependent with all his postal savings & Money lending profession. He owned a chawl and a Mutton shop. He was now very near to resign a job.
One fine day in January 2000 news came in the factory that Ajay’s wife ran away from home. All his friends were shocked. Everyone knew that Babu is a very close friend of Ajay. Friends were asking Babu, what’s the matter? Friends were discussing how any woman after 25 years of marriage can leave her husband. Babu went home, met Ajay gave him moral support. After some time both of them went to the police station to launch a complaint about Urmila's missing.
Next three days Babu also took leave from work & went on with Ajay to find his wife. They searched her at all possible locations, close relatives & friends' homes, and Native places. She was not found anywhere. After three days Babu Joined the office. Ajay was in such a bad mental condition & with a broken heart was at home thinking of his wife all the time & crying.
After one week Urmila came to the Police station where a missing complaint was lodged. She asked the police officer to cancel this missing complaint. Told him about her story in short. Police called on Ajay at Police Station. They asked him about taking back his complaint of missing Urmila as she was there in front of him. There she told Police that she left her husband's home & does not wish to live anymore with him. Police asked her where she was last week. she told them that she was living in an Ashram in Alandi (a place near Pune). Police advised Ajay not to give any trouble to Urmila. If she raises any complaint against him then they will put him behind the bars so please beware.
Here after two days
Babu left home without any information to anybody. Babu made a phone call to his wife & told her that he is safe & with Urmila. No one needs to worry about him. They were going to get married. He had made all arrangements for his family to live in good condition. After one month he sends his resignation to the office. Babu & Urmila got married. In the factory, all the friends were very surprised after coming to know about this. Called Babu a Fraud man who deceived his friend. Ajay was still in shock condition could not digest all this. After a few days, Ajay started his normal life. He started drinking more. The most trusted friend became an enemy for him.
